Commercial Range Hood Losing Suction
A commercial kitchen exhaust hood was pulling noticeably less smoke and heat than usual during peak service.
Symptom
Kitchen staff noticed smoke and heat lingering under the hood during busy service instead of pulling straight up and out, a gradual change rather than a sudden failure.
What We Found
Grease buildup inside the exhaust ductwork and on the fan blades themselves was restricting airflow. Heavy daily use in a commercial kitchen builds this up faster than most people expect, and it happens gradually enough that staff adjust without noticing the decline.
How We Fixed It
Cleaned the fan assembly and accessible ductwork, checked belt tension on the exhaust fan motor, and confirmed airflow was restored to spec with a direct measurement rather than just a visual check.
Fix time: Same-visit, scheduled around off-peak hours
Commercial hoods need real, scheduled cleaning, not just the filters. A gradual drop in suction is grease in the ductwork more often than a fan motor problem.
